Otherwise known as the outdoor mall where the second Apple store is located, is more than just a mall. It combines living space, shopping and eateries in one really convenient mini-town. The only thing that you’d really have to leave it for is to go to work and schools. The idea is pretty neat and it looks really nice! Besides, who wouldn’t want to live within walking distance of an Apple store? :) And speaking of the Apple store, I did in fact go and was the 13th person there (11th in line) so I did get a t-shirt (a pic will appear later, I think) and entered to win the grand prize (Macbook with AppleCare, membership to ProCare, iPod Nano, iPod Hi-Fi, iWork and a .Mac membership). They’re also giving away 10 ProCare memberships as 1st Prizes. Those really don’t appeal to me that much because there isn’t an Apple store near where I live. The closest one is in Charlotte, NC, about an hour and 15 minutes up I-85. Anyway, I won’t know if I won until after the 11th, but you can bet I’ll be posting if I do win! In any case, it was definitely cool to go to the store opening and was definitely worth getting up early for!
I need to dump the pictures I’ve taken so far, but I forgot the USB cable so I’m at a bit of an impasse. I can keep shooting and then dump the cards later or I can try to find a Circuit City or Best Buy or some place that would have a USB cable for purchase. I don’t really want another USB cable so a third alternative is a compact flash adapter to fit in the PC Card slot of the Powerbook. I have one of those at home, too, but it’s slow and I’ve been thinking about replacing it anyway. Ideally, I just need to find someone shooting with a Nikon (or any camera that uses a USB cable to communicate with a computer) and borrow one. We’ll see.
Lastly, before I went to bed last night I came up with artwork for the SXSW songs. It’s nothing impressive but I figured I’d post it in case someone was interested.
