My Dream App: Vote #2

My Dream App logoI should have blogged about this sooner, but there’s this contest for the Macintosh platform that is pitting 24 application ideas against one another in a Survivor-esque manner called My Dream App. The winner will actually be developed and we, the Mac-using internet get to vote for our favorite ideas. It’s amazingly cool and the contest is down to 18 ideas. Today, I wanted to share what I voted for, and why.

In application alpha order:

Cameron Westland’s Atmosphere — I chose this one because the UI sweetness was too nice to let go without futher information as to how this app will work.

Dan Lundmark’s Blossom — This is one of my favorite ideas so far and though I’m not sure how much I’d actually pay for an app like this, if it was cool enough, I’d probably buy it.

Michael Yuan’s Cookbook — I’m not sure this app would actually meet my needs, but the ability to actually buy ingredients online is pretty neat, not to mention the preparation and cooking timers!

Andrew Wilson’s Desktop Wars — Right now, I think this idea is suffering from a lack of real direction, but I do think it’s a neat idea and could be really fun to play with!

Bogumil Giertler’s Herald — Another one that I picked because I wanted it to be around a little longer to find out where it goes.

Kevin Capizzi’s Hijack — I don’t keep track of tons of forums, but when I go to them, it’s nice to keep track of threads I’ve posted on, or ones that I want to follow. I agree with one of the judges that mentions that creating a standard API to popular forum packages would be a great way to fully realize this app. In any case, I’m excited to see where this goes. The new iTunes 7-like interface mockup is pretty cool, too.

Jeff Greenberg’s iGTD — Like some of the other ideas above, I want to see where this one goes before I fully judge it. It does seem like it could be a cool app.

Anders Melin’s Stick-It (Superstickies) — Wow, I’ve done this a lot, but I picked this one because I do think it’s a pretty cool idea, but I want to follow the contestant’s blog to find out more information about the direction for this app.
