Imminent Realign

Lately, I’ve started thinking about updating the design of this site. I do this probably more often than I should, and I believe it has to do with the fact that I never really finish every aspect of the site. Over the last five days or so though, I’ve gotten a lot of inspiration to make changes, especially after listening to a couple of the keynotes from SxSW. The big thing that I’m taking away from everything I’ve heard and read is that I really need to figure out who I am—not so much who I am as a person, but who I am on the web. That pretty much equates to my own personal “brand.” It isn’t a hard concept, but I’ve yet to come up with an answer. In the past I’ve just thrown stuff up here however I wanted to, and with the exception of the odd article-quality entry or rant, has been more of a personal journal than a blog for most of the time. I talk about anything from what’s going in my life to my healthy admiration of all things Apple, LEGO (Star Wars), and VW. Throw in a bunch of photo entries and you’ve pretty much got my site pegged.

I also have to be concerned with my audience, but that would be a heck of a lot easier if I knew who they are. I think right now, most of my hits come from one-time visits generated from search engine clicks, and that’s great. But what I’m going to have to work out is how to convert all those one-time visits into recurring visits—not to mention getting my feed into people’s newsreaders. To do that, I’ve got to spend more time writing longer entires that people will want to take the time to read. I’m not sure how that’s going to happen, but we’ll see. I’m going to keep at it and hopefully, I’ll be able to complete this realign soon.
