Firewire Forever

From nslog():

Question: Is Apple treating Mac users as second-class citizens with the push towards USB 2 over Firewire on new iPods?

I think so. I can understand it though, since most people buy iPods and hook ‘em up to their Windows PC. It’s crazy that Apple would market two versions, with and without a Firewire cable (though they did it for awhile, before). However, the cables probably only cost a couple dollars to make (at most), so I say they should just include a Firewire cable too.

Interesting point, it seems there might be a new AC adapter with the new iPod photos. They come with a USB cable and an AC adapter, which in the past, was Firewire based.

One last thing, this whole fiasco doesn’t affect me in the least. I bought a 1st gen iPod mini which came with both Firewire and USB cables. :)

    I think it is kind of sad that Apple is giving into the almost ubiquitously Windows PC standardized USB 2.0 cable. As for me, I went out and bought an Adaptec Firewire / IEEE 1394 card for my computer when I bought my iPod knowing that it would be more beneficial to the pod in the long run.
    It wasn’t until a few weeks ago when I was over at my brothers and he had his ipod that I got him for Christmas plugged up to his computer with the USB cable and it was charging. My jaw dropped.
    Needless to say though, after doing speed testing, the Firewire definitely beats the USB interface hands dowm, of course things may have changed, but that was with my 3rd generation iPod.
    I guess Apple is going to lure users to change from PCs to Macs by making them realize, “Oh Macs use USB peripherials now a days, they’re not arsonists and pyromaniacs like they used to be with their firewires.” I wonder if it will work… ;-)
