Dealership Suckiness and Driving Fun

This morning I took my car to the dealership for an oil change and to see if they could look in to why I’m getting a nasty mildew smell from the A/C system. What I wound up getting was an oil change, a car that smells like cinnamon, and a few more marks on the dash. I don’t know why dealerships suck as much as they do but I’m getting fed up. I’m glad I’m not really allergic to cinnamon, because the nasty disinfectant spray they sprayed up the vents is almost too much to handle. I hate smelly stuff. I always dreaded going down the “perfume aisle” at grocery stores (the aisle with laundry detergent and stuff) when I was growing up and this laziness might bring cause me to start having flashbacks to those powerfully bad smells. And to add insult to injury, I think they put down the can of spray on my dash for a second, which left a couple marks. Then they had the nerve to say they weren’t responsible. I can’t prove it of course, but driving my car every day, I think I know when stuff happens like that. I’m sure I’d be mad at myself if I’d done it and would remember it.

Anyway, I went to Old Navy and bought a couple shirts, a pair of shorts and a bag that I’ll probably put my laptop in for the Roswell 2k trip this summer. I’ll need to pick up a computer sleeve, though, since it isn’t really a computer bag. I thought it was cool though.

And lastly, I drove to Greenville to test drive an BMW X3. After a fairly long wait before someone came to help, I was told that Saturday they were too busy to let me drive anything. At least the person went ahead and signed the card. Since I was right there at the Mini dealership, I thought that I’d try to take a Cooper S model on a test drive. They were very nice and before too long I was behind the wheel of a Pepper White (kind of an off-white color) S model that was great fun to drive. I took a fairly long test drive combining both city and highway miles and enjoyed almost every minute of it. Except for the accidental partial entry down a one-way ramp, it was great. Luckily the salesperson was nice and didn’t make a really big deal about it. I’m not from Greenville, remember! :) Anyway, I had my bug appraised and they’d give me about $8,500 for the bug, which would drop the price of an S to around $16-17K. Not too bad really. I politely said no though, that I can’t really buy a car now. But, man, once I buy a house, who knows. If my car wasn’t so good, I’d be really tempted to replace it. I just wish I knew of a better place to take it for service!

That’s about it for my Saturday, at least so far. Tonight, I’m going to Outback for dinner and afterwards am going to see Troy at the new Spartan 16 theater. It should be a pretty fun evening!

A new theater in Spartanburg?? Is it one of those nice ones with the high-backed chairs? Oh and one other thing. Do you dare to mention the dealership that you take your car to? Want to avoid them if possible. Headed back to Sparkle City this week for at least 6 months of Work.

Yup. It’s a Consolidated theater with steep stadium seating with reclining chairs.

The dealership I took my VW Beetle to was the Vic Bailey VW located on the east side of Spartanburg. The only other “close” VW dealer is in Greenville. I think there’s one in Asheville and Columbia but I don’t want to have to drive there for service!

Yeah, actually I saw the theater from I-26 this evening when driving home from school. I’ll have to check it out.
