Driving Rules
I thought it was interesting that in today’s Herald Journal there was a section about cars and in it, an article about driving don’ts. Now everyone that knows me knows that I, correctly or not, consider myself to be a decent driver. This attitude fosters several pet peeves and I was elated to see some of my pet peeves addressed in the article. Left-lane hoggers, the yielding ramp-stop perpetrators, and cruise-passing idiots are all addressed and hopefully effectively corrected. Then again, I’m probably not that lucky. That section of the paper is a pullout section in which the aforementioned article is several pages in to it, so the chances of people that cannot drive actually reading the article isn’t that great. i can dream though. Maybe one day the people that can’t drive will either get off the road or learn to drive!
Are you a left lane hog if you’re just driving really fast and tend to stay there? We need some more specific definitions.
Left lane hogs are those that are going slowing than most of the traffic on the highway. Kinda related to this is the cruise-pass in which you try to pass someone without really speeding up. I’m not guilty of that one on a two-lane road but sometimes I might slow down traffic once in awhile from trying to pass someone on a multilane road. Oh well. I usually get out of the way if someone is barreling up on me. Another thing I can’t stand is the person who doesn’t give me a chance to get over if I’m riding in the left lane. I guess I just need to pay even more attention to my rear-view mirror.
I would classify a left lane hog as anyone that does not move out of the way for vehicles traveling at higher speeds … in the left lane of course. What you consider “a chance” to get over may not be what the person behind you considers enough time / space. My thinking is that if I have enough space to squeeze my car around someone on the right … then they had three times as much space (at least) to get over.
I think we should be allowed to carry shotguns when we drive.
what arae the rules for travelling with children in a car?
Well, I don’t know. I don’t have kids so I really haven’t thought of any rules that aren’t law (safety belts) in South Carolina or highly recommended “rules” (children should ride in the back to a certain age or height).
