Day 4: Sweetwater, TX to Roswell, NM
Started off to be a great day, and really, it wasn’t all that bad. It had some moments though. We met at 7:30 (mostly) fueled up and ready to go. The lady in costume was back and they had full size aliens and Star Wars characters posed next to the goody bags they were giving out. The number of bugs increased overnight which was really cool. Among those joining us was Kevin Buchanan in the new Spirit, his red New Beetle Sport. We finally left Sweetwater around 8:15-8:45 and I videotaped all the bugs leaving the gravel parking area we met at. It was pretty cool! The rest of the way to Roswell was pretty much uneventful. I’m sure we confused a lot of trucker’s on the last little leg since it was a two lane road that we somehow knew where the traffic on. All thanks to the FRS radios of course. :)
When we got to Roswell, John and I went to the Sally Port with Russ to see if we could get a room there instead of staying at the Holiday Inn Express. We got a suite for 10 bucks less than the Holiday Inn so we were happy. The car was really dirty after 3 day’s of driving, especially through rain the previous day so I tried washing the car at the back of the Sally Port. I washed it but the water was so bad it looked worse after it was “clean” than it did before. So I finally gave up and went and checked in with the show to get my registration packet. After a call to the Holiday Inn to cancel the reservation I drove over to the Day’s Inn where Lisa and Stephanie were staying since I had all of the cam equipment she needed for the next morning. When I got back to the hotel I met up with John, Russ and his copilot and the four of us went to Sonic for dinner.
Thus, the Eastern Caravan, 2002 edition, ended.
